Mis-en-scene

Costume Design

Outfit

As for Elena's costume, being on the track team, she usually wears workout clothes, Since she is of low class, her outfits are pretty simple. It consists of a shirt, leggings, sneakers, and a jacket if its cold.

These outfits are not only her workout outfits, but just her daily outfits overall. This is because she is constantly running whether it be before, after, or during school. Wearing workout clothes allows her to always be ready to practice when it may be and not have to worry about changing or bringing extra clothes.

Here's what one of her outfits would potentially look like:

Shoes

Elena has a pair of nice shoes she wears for good luck. She was gifted these shoes by her mom as for track some good shoes are needed. These shoes are one of the only semi-expensive things she has, as her coach gifted them to her.

This really establishes the close relationship between coach and athlete that they have for the film. Her coach is someone who really cares for her success and believes in the skills she has.

Here are some similar shoes to the ones that will be in the opening:

YouTube

No surprise here!!

Of course, to distribute our film we will make use of Youtube. As of right now, Youtube is one of the largest video sharing services. It is a platform where basically anyone can upload what they want. So, we decided we will distribute our opening on Youtube. Also, it is easy to reach a lot of people through the service as it has over 2 billion users, from all around the world.

Target Audience

Target Audience

Wonder what our target audience is?

Well.. you guessed it, teenagers, to young adults! The ages will range from 14-25.  Our target audience will be not be directed towards a specific gender, instead, we will focus on both males and females.

Humans tend to watch films that resemble a similar world/life to theirs. Since Elena is a teenager that plays sports, she is relatable for this age group. With this, we can attract our target audience and maintain their interest. Our audience will include high schoolers to college students to allow for the greatest range, but will still watch our film

Props

Props

For our opening, we have decided to incorporate some props. These props will help to establish Elena's track career, while others her socioeconomic class. Since our budget is at $0, we will be using stuff we have and making what we don't.

These props really contribute to the representation of our film as our main character is low income high school athlete. They are the main way we have to display this in our film opening. The props will supply our openings with literal visuals of what the character is about, track and also establishing her persona.

Here are some of the props we plan on incorporating:

-track trophies (we'll be using some of our old ones)
- financial aid form (we will create one)
- unpaid bills (we will also make these)

Fonts

Choosing a font

My group members and I have finally decided on a few fonts we believe would fit the title the best and the rest of the film as well.
Here are the three major ones we decided on:

Our final decision...

We decided on font number two!! The reason behind this is because it symbolizes track in the way that it's slanted.  It looks as if the words themselves are running out literally. It is also simple enough so that it won't distract the audience from what will be going on in the background. Instead, it will meld the background to the words. The first one is too generic and too typical, while the last one just has too much going on.

Setting

Trailer Park

My partner already figured out the basics of where we are to film for the opening. I decided to finalize the setting we are going to film her running in. Since Elena is of low-class, her setting should showcase that. We are planning to film her morning run in a trailer park.

The nature of the idea

When we first decided to incorporate this setting into the opening an image immediately popped into my head. The one I was thinking of was close and would portray her class perfectly. This is because Elena is poor, but her mother's income is still able to cover her basic needs.

Here's a visual representation of where we plan on filming:

Group meetings

Group Meetings

Surprise 😊😊.. today we had our group meetings!! It was about five or six of us per group and we would just present our projects to our group members. Everyone would give feedback on the presentations and on the projects themselves.

Here's some of the feedback I received:

-Show her very early in the morning and then it fades out (for her early run)
-Montage of her name being called by producers (for credit scene)
-Running out name comes out as she runs off the screen (title screen)
-Show bills that are not paid (to establish her socioeconomic class)
-Title and then school bell ringing (to transition into her speaking with her coach)

Overall, I believe the group meetings were a huge success. They really helped me to further my group's idea. This is because a few new pairs of eyes bring more ideas.
